How Do I Use FrontPage with My Hosting Account

This section describes administration procedures to use with Microsoft FrontPage 98 and FrontPage 2000. Our hosting servers also support FrontPage 97. Using FrontPage is the same for both Linux and NT hosting accounts. We are currently running FrontPage 2000 server extensions. You may wish to confirm with your Teztech install technician that your web hosting account has the FrontPage server extensions installed and enabled.

There are two different ways you can use FrontPage to create and maintain your web site. The following two sections, "Local Editing" and "Remote Editing," discuss these options in more detail.

Editing Locally

Most professional web authors use FrontPage to create, edit and test their web site on a web server that is installed on their own machine (Personal Web Server, for example) or on a local, intranet server. Once the web site has been perfected, the Teztech Hosting Server is updated by uploading the completed web site from the local web server to the remote Internet hosting server. This process of uploading a completed web site to the hosting server is called "publishing."

Here are the basic steps to follow:

  1. Install FrontPage 98 or 2000 on your workstation. If you are using FrontPage 98, you will need to install the Personal Web Server if you plan to maintain the web site on your own machine. Installing the Personal Web Server is optional for FrontPage 2000. You do NOT need to install the FrontPage Server Extensions on the Teztech Internet Hosting Server. If you are working on an NT Intranet server, you can install Internet Information Server and the FrontPage Server Extensions your Intranet server.
  2. Use FrontPage to create your web site. All FrontPage Wizards and WebBots should work normally on the hosting server.
